Permutations!

This time tomorrow, we could be looking forward to another crack at the play-offs. But on this occasion, the various circumstances which could lead to us getting there are rather more complex than in the past. In order to make some sense of it all, here is a definitive list of the various permutations which will result in play-off qualification for Town. Take a deep breath.....

Scenario 1:

Wolves Draw or Lose.

Crystal Palace Lose.

Ipswich win against Hull.

Scenario 2:

Wolves Draw or Lose.

Crystal Palace Draw.

Ipswich win against Hull by three goals or more.

Scenario 3:

Wolves Draw or Lose.

Watford Lose.

Ipswich win against Hull.

Scenario 4:

Crystal Palace Lose.

Watford Lose.

Ipswich win against Hull.

Scenario 5:

Crystal Palace Draw.

Watford Lose.

Ipswich win against Hull by three goals or more.

So, any one of the above, and Ipswich are in the play-offs. In essence, we need to finish above two of Wolves, Crystal Palace or Watford. Of course, there remains the possibility that all three clubs drop the required number of points and we finish 5th, unlikely though that may seem.

The potential play-off opposition would be very simple. If two of the three clubs mentioned above drop points in any of the above five scenarios, then we will finish 6th and play Hull in the play-offs. With confidence high having obviously beaten them in the previous game.

If all three clubs drop points and we finish 5th, we will play Bristol City. And we know what we are capable of against them!

One further point- all of the above is on the assumption that Sheffield United do not win by a margin three goals greater than we win by. Should they manage this, which seems extremely unlikely, then we would need all three clubs to drop points. But probably best to rule that out, for simplicity!

So..... easy isnt it?! Bring on the play-offs!
