Town Fan Malcolm Thompson will be running from Haverhill all the way to Portman Road in time for Sundays game with Hull. The run is in the name of raising money for The Multiple Sclerosis Society, on behalf of Ipswich legend Kevin Beattie, and we wish him the very best of luck for this arduous task! Malcolm provides further details, including how to make a donation.
Now only a few days left (Sat 3rd May) before i set out on my charity run from Haverhill to Portman Road running via, Clare, Melford, Newton and Hadleigh before ending up at Hintlesham Hall (whenever) Saturday evening to recover as this is approx 33 miles, more than a marathon. Then the next day (match day) i will complete the last 8/10 miles (approx) to the Statue at around midday to give me time to recover and get changed at the ground before kick off. The route i will take on the final journey is down Portman Road, behind the North Stand stand where Sir Alf statue is turning the corner finishing at Sir Bobby Robson statue....
Reason for doing this is because Kevin Beattie wanted to thank the MS Society for all the help and support he gets from them for his wife Maggie, who sadly suffers with MS and so i madly agreed to do this in the name of the Beatties. 12 months ago i couldn't run for a bus so this is the biggest achievement to date for me. Obviously i will need to walk some of the roads that are too narrow etc for safety reasons but i hope to run the majority.
Kevin will meet me at the statue and it is planned that Look East will be there too to cover this.
I would be grateful if you can cheer me on if you see me on route and also if you can PLEASE pledge some monies on www.justgiving.com/northstander as so to raise monies for what is a worthy cause. They say that one in four of us has or knows someone who has MS so this effects a lot of people. If you don't want to sponsor for MS,. then perhaps sponsor as a way of thanking The Beat for all that he did whilst wearing the Blue shirt of ITFC.
Thanks in advance for your time to read this and for your support and hope to see you at the end either at the statue or in the D&M!!!
