Paying Your Way

Just a week into the "Roy Keane Era" and already the positive financial impact of his appointment is starting to be felt by the club. Could it be that Keane has paid for himself within a week, just simply by being here!?

With the announcement of Roy Keanes appointment and the media frenzy that followed, the rush for season tickets was such that the club extended their season ticket renewal deadline.

Already, the club have revealed that 750 season tickets have been sold in this last week, with many more still expected. Then came the news that Sundays final home game with Coventry City is expected to be something approaching a sell-out.

These circumstances have been solely driven by the interest that Roy Keane generates. Even at this stage, it would not be in any way unreasonable to suggest that he has attracted an additional 1000 season ticket sales, whilst it appears he has swelled the attendance for an inconsequential last day of the season game by at least 8000 above our average attendance.

When translating just those two figures into money, the amounts are astonishing. Assuming a Season Ticket price of £400 and a Matchday Ticket Price of £25, Keanes appointment has raised £600,000 to date. It is not unreasonable to conclude that Keane has probably generated enough money in this last week alone to not only pay his salary for a year, but also to significantly donate to Jim Magiltons severance pay- and all of that without even beginning to take into account merchandise sales.

The appointment of Roy Keane as manager could hopefully turn out to be an inspired move by Marcus Evans on the pitch. But its already apparent that it is a very inspired move off it.
