Much has been written over recent months about the renaming of Ipswich Towns North Stand in honour of Towns legendary manager, Sir Bobby Robson. But here at The Blues Journal, we think there is a much more fitting and lasting tribute to the man who gave so much to our Football Club.....
Ipswich Town Football Club owes much of what it is today to Sir Bobby Robson, of that there is little question.
There has been recent clamour to award the naming rights to the North Stand in honour of the great man. However, the club themselves have been reticent to do so, owing to the sponsorship opportunities this would give up, something which unfortunately cannot be ignored.
However, we believe there is a far better opportunity, right on the clubs doorstep. And it is one which is free from any current, or potential future, sponsorship. As a man who dedicated much of his time as manager to nurturing the young players who would become the bedrock of the clubs future successes, what better tribute to this great man can there be than to name the clubs Academy and training ground as- The Sir Bobby Robson Academy.
As a manager, Robson loved his time on the training field and he put particular care into the development of the young players. Not only in order that they could turn the football club into one of the greatest sides in Europe, but that he could embue a particular playing style into those players, which has become something of a trademark of the club.
It seems entirely fitting that every player, whether a youngster in the Academy or an experienced International, will know just what this great club stands for- from the moment they first turn up at the club and for every single day they remain at it- as they see the words "Sir Bobby Robson Academy" written large on the Training Ground.
