Now that the 07/08 season feels like a footnote in history and the raw emotions of the last day of the season have subsided, its an appropriate time to look at where the team are now. Have we improved? Have we improved enough?
Almost every comment that can be written about the 07/08 season will be summarised by two phrases- "Home Form" and "Away Form".
And that, almost in its entirety, is the season. Add in such phrases as "Injection of cash" and "Signing Midfielders" and you have the subplot for the season.
The main thing to take from the season though, is this- Jim Magilton has built a side which has shown itself to be capable of beating the very best teams in the division. Thats something that may have been levelled at many other former Ipswich sides, but very few would also be able to add the word "comfortably" to the end of that sentence. That in itself demonstrates the level of progress that has been achieved at the football club in the last year.
The last word that needs to be added to the whole equation is "consistency". With that, we will be champions, or close to it. And the excitement is that the side have shown they can provide that consistency at home, so its simply about bridging the gap to provide it away from home. Then add in the bonus factor of some real squad investment, which can hopefully provide the quality to reach that level of performance, and its clear that the club could be on the brink of exciting times.
